PRESS RELEASE
In the framework of the arts festival event organized by the Municipality of Thassos, a representative of the “BDS” and “stop CCS” associations was given permission to read a message condemning the genocide against the Palestinian people and against the storage of CO2 in Thassos. A sad minority of people of Israeli origin, after attacking the speaker before he had well and truly started the speech, then hurled uncharacteristic insults in front of the camera, making vulgar gestures and threats towards the citizens and mothers of children present.
The Thassos Coordination Committee of Bodies against CO2 storage expresses its disgust and condemns unequivocally the thuggish actions against democratic citizens by unrepentant nostalgists of fascism. It expresses its support and stands by the victims of this brazen physical and verbal violence.
In the country where democracy was born, freedom of expression and circulation of ideas is an inviolable right and any attempt to nullify it by would-be deniers must be met with exemplary punishment by the State and their condemnation in the conscience of every democratic citizen. Democracy cannot be taken for granted if we do not defend it at all times and in all circumstances from attacks by the followers of obscurantism.
