Subject : Introduction by Yannis Economides to the Municipal Council of Kavala
(7/7/2025) for CCS Prinos
First of all, I would like to thank the Municipal Council for the opportunity provided to us with today’s special Council meeting to present our views on the underground storage of CO2 in Prinos, Thassos.
I am Yannis Economides, I am a Mechanical Engineer, I have already completed 4 decades of professional activity and I am one of the three members of the interdisciplinary team ( Prof. Lazaros Vassiliadis and Prof. Th. Karapantsios ) recommended by the Municipality of Thassos to support at a technical level its negative attitude and its major concerns in the implementation of such a project.
I’m here because I’m literally scared of the size of the risks arising from the implementation of such a project. The risks are extremely high and the most critical ones in our view are UN MANAGED.

WITH CALM AND SERIOUSNESS, THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KAVALA IS INFORMED OF THE FEARS AND CONCERNS OF ALL OF US THASIANS REGARDING THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROJECT! AWAY FROM POLITICAL OR PARTY AGENDAS AND WITH OUR LOVE FOR OUR PLACE AS OUR ONLY OPINION!!!!
WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM OUR ANCESTORS A PARADISE AND WE WILL NOT ALLOW OURSELVES TO HAND OVER TO OUR CHILDREN ANYTHING LESS!!!”
