Thassos thundered in Limenas “No to CO₂ storage – Yes to life and transparency”

The event organized by the Coordinating Committee of Thassos Bodies against Carbon Dioxide Storage (CCS) together with the Municipality of Thassos took place on Sunday afternoon in Limenas with great success and participation of hundreds of citizens. The event was honored with the presence of the Mayor of Thassos, Mr. Kyriakides, and the Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism of Kavala, Mr. Panagiotis Archontis.
The residents expressed their strong concern and opposition to the project. The movement seems to be taking a decisive turn. It is leaving behind the path of information and heading towards a political trajectory. The glaring absence of the local political authorities and the Kavala media determined the fate of things. It was the spark that ignited a new discussion. Keynote speakers: Babis Papakyriakou & Lambros Sakellariou, members of the Coordinating Committee, who sent the following clear messages:
- Thassos demanded from all politicians in the region, MPs and mayors, who avoid a clear position, an END TO THE SPECULATION, demanded a clear position on the project in Prinos.
- Against all supporters of the policy of compensatory measures. Thassos does not sacrifice itself, especially when it is not a project of national importance as the government is trying to sell us.
- Against the destructive consequences that the project will have on the environment, our lives, the real estate market, and generally the island’s tourism development.

- We hold on to what unites us!
- Thassos does not sacrifice itself!
- Tourism is our bread and butter!
- NO to the specula on the environment and our lives
- Where are our MPs?
- We don’t want the project! Take them and leave!

A thank you also goes to the Municipality for its help asand the musical group “The Children of Tradition” for their wonderful music, which dressed the evening with authentic, traditional and lively sounds, highlighting our culture.
