Energy landscape in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Ten years ahead

From Prinos’ work, we learned that transparency,
independent oversight, public participation, and strict environmental requirements are crucial for social control. independent oversight, public participation, and strict environmental requirements are critical dimensions of social control. Without them, there is a high risk of environmental damage and socio-economic conflicts. To implement these principles, we need active citizens. Only citizens can prevent projects that are destructive to our region. The obligation to investigate and take on this responsibility lies with the citizen. Those who profit will not inform; they are building an ever-higher wall of silence towards society. Society must seek out and evaluate this information itself and, ultimately, make the political decisions that are in its best interests.
Personally, I do not believe that Prinos is a solitary or random project, but part of a larger plan being designed for the AMTh region.
Beyond the risks we see coming with CCS Prinos, I have tried here to look 10 years ahead and sketch out how I see the AMTh region around 2035. In my opinion, CCS is the beginning of a new era dawning for our country. It is the beginning of the era of “Green Neocolonialism,” an era in which we will produce energy not for ourselves but for others. A national policy should turn this situation into a competitive advantage for our country, into a policy of attracting investment and increasing the degree of integration of production processes, mainly in the digital sector. Will we do this, or will we become/remain merely the “battery of Europe”?
