We will not try in this letter to take a position on technocratic issues and to “pose” in the “gazza” that you are trying to serve us. We leave the technocratic issue to the dozens of environmental organizations and scientists in Europe and America who see your “gazza” as a dangerous graveyard of pollutants in the “lake” of the Gulf of Kavala and a stone’s throw from our shores. We are firmly convinced that your unprincipled to suspicious decision to ardently support the storage plans CO2 from the Israeli-British Energean mines our health, degrades our unique marine and terrestrial environment and destroys the excellent tourist footprint of our island. On the other hand, your pretextual appeal to ‘green growth’ or the reduction of the carbon footprint falls on deaf ears, since the 3 million tonnes per year that will be buried in Prinos in front of the 40 billion tonnes of global emissions is literally a drop in the ocean, for which you are willing to spend 2.5 billion euros from the backs of Greek taxpayers, a gift to your well-liked ‘businessmen’. As for your failure to offset or punish us for some – somewhere illegal – rubbish dump in the Potos, to legitimise you to drown us with millions of tonnes of CO2 forever, we see this only as proof of hostility and lack of arguments on your part. In any case, we are not sure that you could easily find where Thassos falls on the map, but we are sure that you will need the help of your advisers to find Potos. Of course, it would also be ungrateful of us if we failed to bow to your magnanimity in sparing us the danger of a potential oil spill after 43 years, by invading CO2 in the empty wells and while the deposit is…depleted! But above all, Mr.Skylakakis, we want to talk about something else, the supreme value, to talk about our lives, our lives, our children’s lives, our children’s children’s lives… To talk about our continuity in the blessed place where we were born and where we live, in the “emerald of the Aegean”, defending our inalienable right to life and our prosperity.
The idols you are selling us, Mr Skylakakis, have nothing to do with reality. We love our island, because it is our life and that is why we all, without exception, put our backs into it, putting aside divisions, in order to save it.
You accuse us of being “indifferent to disasters that happen around us”. Just one example. The Thasites have fought sacrificially in all of the many fires in recent history that have plagued our beautiful island. In the most devastating of these in 1985 when 130,000 acres, 1/3 of the island, burned, seven of our fellow Thasites were burned alive in the battle with the flames. Either your ignorance is proverbial or your memory is selective.

Thasites is not “dirty” as you shamelessly imply. He is a landlord in the place he loves and fights for his life, because for him the value of life is not measured. Don’t delude yourself that you will corrupt our unity by discovering the “laikura” behind our mass mobilizations. Your concern is justified but your attempt is futile because it is the very nature of the problem that unlocks the enormous latent power of our local society. Everyone on the island understands that the disastrous consequences of storing the CO2 of the SEE countries in Príncipe will not choose between left and right or between rich and poor. We will all pay a devastating price for all of us, forever. The Thasites as a whole, from the Mayor to the last citizen, hold the helm of their island in their hands and drive it safely for its passengers and with the dowry of the “emerald” unassailable. We will not allow any kind of lewdness to his body even if modern “Wooden Walls” are needed. Keep in mind that Thassos is not offered for sacrifice as a modern “Iphigenia” on the altar of the unquenchable thirst of bloodthirsty Israeli interests.

The militant hormophyte of Thasitis is courting to stop the government on the slippery slope of selling off and colonizing our country in general. If you consider us “dirty” and “retarded” we suggest you look in the mirror and see how you have made our country a “peninsula” of Brussels. We Thasites are from head to toe a part of our destiny and we have learned to fight against every charlatan who wants to destroy our country. When a government authoritatively tries to stifle the sense of self-preservation of the citizen, its bread is short.
