COORDINATING COMMITTEE OF ANTI-STORAGE OPERATORS CO2
The Coordinating Committee of stakeholders through regularly scheduled meetings plans actions and takes initiatives to inform and alert residents to the cancellation of the planned storage of the CO2 storage in Prinos that has upset our island’s society.
In the period from the big protest gathering at Limenas until today
- We met twice at the Municipality with the Mayor who informed us about the actions of the Municipality at the legal level, the assignment of the defence of our positions to a reliable law firm and the selection of an environmental consultant for the deconstruction of the Company’s P.P.E. Our meetings also focused on the organization and preparation of mobilizations to be undertaken in the coming period such as the “rig battle” with flotillas of ships from Kavala and Thassos for an on-board protest at the oil rig site in Prinos.
- We went to Kavala together with our fellow citizens and attended the very interesting and informative event that took place at the Kavala Municipal Library “Vassilis Vassilikos” organized by the “1 institute” with an excellent panel of scientific speakers. TOn the same day we had a meeting with members of the “Initiative against CO2” for mutual information and better coordination and efficiency in our common struggle.
- We have sent open letters calling for support from the deputies of our prefecture, the Mayors of Kavala and neighbouring prefectures, the Regional Governor, the Deputy Regional Tourism Director and the councillors of the Regional Council. At the same time, in an effort to extrovert the problem outside the island’s borders, we sent a call for support and hosting of our issue to the local and national media.
- We coordinate the collection of signatures from citizens of our island from village to village. The aim is to get 10.000 of our fellow citizens to sign against the storage of exhaust gases in the bowels of Thassos.
- We are planning a series of informative events-seminars in our communities with the excellent scientist and friend of our island Lambros Sakellariou as speaker, starting from Limenaria on 16-04 (Almirikia 7pm), with main address to foreign friends of our island. The presentation will be made in German, in order to fully understand the risks for our region from the planned transport and storage project CO2.
We call upon all the inhabitants of our island to be constantly and unquenchably ready for universal participation in actions that we will decide together, because the united, robust resistance is the most crucial factor on the road to the vindication of our struggle.
