Dear media guests, in today’s scheduled interview.
The SC has entrusted me with the presentation of the event.
The Coordinating Committee of the stakeholders of Thassos was born out of the need to express the universal opposition of its inhabitants to the attempted storage of industrialCO2 pollutants. from South-Eastern European countries to the oil-depleted Prinos oil field. Our main objective in the Committee since its establishment has been and remains the unity and awakening of the people of the island, with the conviction that the release of the enormous power hidden within our local community is the invincible weapon in our common struggle against the “chauvozoization” of our region. Without exclusion and discrimination, putting aside what divides us, with no one to spare in this movement and certainly with the municipality at the forefront, we can fend off the uninvited nightmare that threatens our lives.
Despite our delay in the process, we have risen up, organized ourselves and engaged in a campaign to inform public opinion about the consequences of this disastrous project, both within the borders of our island and beyond, with calls of support to the media and social networks. A decisive support in our struggle is the unanimous decision of the Municipal Council against the implementation of the “dirty” project. The inarticulateness of the deputies of our county and the timidity of our Region to synchronize with the universal demand of the people for the cancellation of the project. We call upon them from this table to embrace the people who entrusted them with their vote and to stand up to the height required by circumstances at this time of historic trial for our country.

We would like to ask you to communicate the demands of the people of our region as far as you can, to as many recipients as you know, as recorded in the joint resolution of the institutions, where they state:
“We are fighting all residents united, with inexhaustible strength, so that we are not condemned to live on a ticking time bomb FOREVER, under a state of fear and insecurity.”
“We are convinced that this project, which is being carried out in our own backyard, without anyone asking us, with rubbish that is not ours, is a deadly threat to our safety, tourism, the primary sector, our seas and our unique natural environment.”
“We defend our non-negotiable right to enjoy life for ourselves and our children in an uncontaminated and safe environment in the place where we were born.”
