VISIT OF THE MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT OF SYRIZA P.S. K.ARVANITIS IN THASOS

On Friday the MEP of SYRIZA P.S. Mr. Kostas Arvanitis accompanied by the MP of Drama Mr. Theofilos Xanthopoulos and the Regional Councillor of the “Independent Unitarian Initiative” Mr. Stergios Iliopoulos visited our island on the occasion of the burning issue of CO2 storage in Prinos that finds the society of our island opposed.

At noon they visited the Municipality where they were informed about the actions taken and those that will be launched and in the afternoon they met with the Coordination Committee of Anti-CO2 Agencies. In the evening they had the opportunity to discuss with citizens in the square of the Community of Prinos on the same issue as well as other problems of Thassos.

The Coordinating Committee informed Mr.Arvanitis about the actions it has carried out throughout the previous period and related to informing people about the planned “dirty” investment of Energean, the organization of rallies, the collection of signatures, sending calls of support to state institutions and the media, etc. The discussion resulted in the elaboration of a useful roadmap concerning the tactics to be adopted and the tasks to be shouldered in the next period in order to further externalize our demands. Our main concern ahead of us is to find the appropriate tools to convince, also with our physical presence, the members of the European Parliament of the justice of our non-negotiable demand, the cancellation of the storage of CO2 in our backyard. Mr Arvanitis’ promise to help us with the technical and procedural issues arising from his institutional role, so that our voice can be heard in Brussels, is valuable in every respect.
